Wayne's Guest List

There is magic in the air here as I sit and write to you from one of my favorite places on the planet, Maui, Hawaii. I was first drawn to this island several years ago when one of my mentors and teachers, Dr. Wayne Dyer first started doing weekend workshops here. I was fortunate to spend time studying with this man on topics including the Tao Te Ching, The Power of Intention and Unconditional Love. Wayne had an incredible way of making spirituality accessible to everyone. He always seemed to know exactly what to say at the right time and it always felt as if he was speaking directly to me. I find myself tonight on Maui reminiscing about this great soul that graced the planet and left too soon at the age of 75. Wayne left his body on August 29, 2015. Wayne often referenced his mentors being Ram Dass and Abraham Maslow and although he never knew them very well, he still credits them as playing a significant role in his life. I feel this way about Wayne. One could perhaps say he is my “Ram Dass”. Wayne would speak about writing his books on Maui and what an incredible flow he would get into here. Over the past week I have found myself here on Maui in this incredible flow of writing as I work on the first draft of my first book. It is a book on mindfulness and awareness. It has been flowing out of me as if a greater source has been writing it. I am beyond convinced that Wayne along with many other angels are playing a huge part in the creation of this work that is pouring out of me. On breaks from my writing, I have been wandering around the island of Maui connecting with the beauty and Aloha spirit that graces this place and although it seems impossible that Wayne is no longer here walking the Kaanapali boardwalk at the beach or swimming laps on the ocean everyday I know that his spirit is alive and well everywhere I look. In fact, I know this to be true because Wayne has offered me a spot on his guest list here in Maui… Let me explain!

About four days ago, I found myself meditating at a famous blowhole on Maui called the Nakalele Blowhole. For those of you that are unfamiliar with this phenomenon, this is a natural event that occurs when the ocean swells up under a shoreline rock surface with a hole in it and shoots water up into the air from the hole. As I sat at the blowhole meditating, I decided to ask Wayne for a sign that he was still present in spirit here. The next thing I knew, a huge spout of water shot up from the blowhole and an incredible rainbow formed and expanded into a full arc right in front of where I was sitting. It was an absolute miracle. I got my sign.

This was just the beginning of Wayne’s blessings and endorsements on my writing trip here in Maui. A few days later, I got a phone call from one of my best friends in Winnipeg who informed me that Deepak Chopra was in Maui giving a week-long retreat. For those of you that do not know, Deepak and Wayne were very close friends and often did events together. Upon hearing that Deepak was on the island I made my way over to the hotel he was presenting at and inquired about tickets. It was there that I met an incredible woman named Libby who kindly told me that there were not tickets available for the event but she would see about getting me into a session or two with Deepak that afternoon. About 15 minutes later, I was informed that I would be on the guest list and attending Deepak’s lecture on the Yoga Sutras. I was over-joyed by the wonderful news. As I mingled with other guests at the event, I was informed that this particular event was originally scheduled to be both Deepak Chopra and Wayne Dyer lecturing but due to Wayne’s passing it was just going to be Deepak. Upon hearing this a chill ran down my spine and I began to tear up. I had an inner knowing that Wayne was behind all of this and that he literally was saving me a spot on his guest list to attend Deepak’s lecture. I was graced with a front row seat to Deepak’s talk and for the two hours, I sat in awe listening to Deepak channel spirit and speak about the principles of dharma and the yoga sutras of Patanjali (one of Wayne’s favorite writers).

At the end of the lecture the icing on the cake was walking back to my free parking spot that I found almost immediately on initially arriving at The Ritz Carleton (parking is normally $40 with the exception of about 10 spots) and watching one of the most gorgeous sunsets sink down into the blue of the ocean waves.

It is times like these that I am reminded that there are no coincidences and the universe is conspiring to give you what you ask for. There are no boundaries to what is possible and everything is unfolding perfectly on time. As I prepare to conclude the writing of my first draft of my first book here in Maui, I am filled with awe and bliss of the wonder of it all. Life truly wants to bless us and grace us. In the spirit of Wayne Dyer I leave you with this profound quote of his that reads, “Have a mind that is open to everything and attached to nothing”. Namaste
